To provide primary and preventative healthcare services to residents of specific areas of Suffolk County with a focus on low income, medically unserved and underserved individuals.

Medical and Medical Specialties

Allergy –To properly diagnose and treat patient allergies, our allergists are equipped with an array of tests: skin tests, intradermal tests, challenge tests, and blood tests. The goals of our allergists are to prevent allergic diseases and provide relief of unpleasant symptoms as well as full treatment of the allergy itself upon diagnosis.

Audiology – The study of the entire field of hearing, including the anatomy and function of the ear, impairment of hearing, and evaluation, education or reeducation, and treatment of persons with hearing loss.

Dermatology – Involves the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the skin. This service is conveniently offered three of our locations. With skin cancer on the rise and our aging population it can be considered part of our primary care.

Endocrinology – Refers to the treatment of the endocrine system. This system controls the hormones and, when not working correctly, can cause pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal disorders, diabetes, heart problems, and weight gain among others.

GYN – Inclusive of a variety of healthcare services for women, especially the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the female reproductive organs. We have an adult nurse practitioner that performs annual exams, including breast exams, and patient education at several sites. All the exam tables are power-operated and patients in wheelchairs can transfer directly from their chair to the table.

Neurology – The medical specialty concerning the disorders of the nervous system. Specifically, it deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of disease involving the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems. One of our physicians is even certified in pediatrics along with genetics which makes him both a unique and huge asset to the clinic.

Primary Care – We provide complete primary care for adults and pediatric patients in five locations. The treatments include physical exams and immunizations, among others. Our primary care physicians are familiar with pain management and acupuncture techniques. Our physicians are bilingual in Spanish and Tagalog.

Psychiatry – A medical specialty to study, prevent, and treat mental disorders. Both adult and pediatric psychiatry are offered at several sites. We have an adult nurse practitioner that specializes in geriatrics. Additionally, one of our physicians is dually certified in psychiatry and neurology.

Podiatry– The branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the human foot. Procedures include debridement. Many of our patients are diabetic and their needs are more urgent and complicated. We offer orthotics and braces when applicable.

Optometry – Concerns the diseases of the visual pathways of the eye and areas surrounding the eye. Eye exams will be performed by our ophthalmologists.

We offer a variety of psychological testing which include psychiatry, neuropsychological, psychosocial and vinelands. Our mental health counseling is provided by a variety of mental health professionals.

We have six dentists at three sites performing general dentistry. Procedures include, but are not limited to: fillings, simple extractions, bridges, scaling and dentures.

Physiatry – Our physiatrist collaborates with other physicians such as primary care providers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and neurologists to coordinate treatment/prevention plans for the patient. This field of medicine concentrates on the wholistic functionality of the individual to diagnose and treat his or her disabling condition throughout the patient’s lifetime.

Physical Therapy – A branch of rehabilitative health that uses specially designed exercises and equipment to help patients regain or improve their physical abilities. Our physical therapists also specialize in wheelchair fittings as well as other adaptive equipment.

Occupational Therapy – Treatment and rehabilitation of physical, cognitive, and emotional needs through creative activity.

Speech Therapy – The treatment of speech and communication disorders. The approach used depends on the disorder. We offer speech at five sites along with augmentative communication.

Assistive Technology – refers to products, devices or equipment, whether acquired commercially, modified or customized, that are used to maintain, increase or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Assistive technology products can enable people with disabilities to accomplish daily living tasks, assist them in communication, education, work and recreational activities. Assistive technology devices can help improve physical or mental functional, overcome a disorder impairment, help prevent the worsening of a condition, strengthen a physical or mental weakness, replace a missing limb, and help improve a person’s capacity to learn. Essentially, these products can help our patients achieve greater independence and enhance their quality of life.

Our certified Insurance Assistors are trained to provide enrollment assistance and education regarding health insurance options on the Marketplace to individuals and small businesses. Our patients and their families can receive hands on assistance to discover the perfect health insurance coverage that is right for them.

The use of telemedicine seeks to increase access to health care by expanding means of communication between providers and patients. Interactive telecommunications equipment makes the process simple and precise. Members of our patient portal service can access our telematics feature.

The philosophy of LISH is to utilize a team of skilled professionals that work with individuals from the initial consultation throughout the selection and acquisition of appropriate equipment and to train those individuals in its use. Our unique program assists individuals with disabilities to achieve independence in all areas of their life through the use of assistive technology.

Referrals are accepted from schools, physicians, human service agencies, hospitals, government agencies, families, and friends. Methods of payment include Medicaid, Medicare, ACCES, private insurance, and personal payment. Contracts for services can be made on an individual basis for school districts and agencies.

As licensed practitioners, we conduct an extensive intake, physical assessment, simulation, and trial of equipment. We also assist with the procurement, justification and ordering of equipment. We offer recommendations followed by training on the appropriate assistive technology. In addition, our professional staff acts as a liaison between the individual and the supplier of the assistive technology.
